Hey, we used to go to Zephyr Cove all the time when I was a kid. Presbyterian conference grounds?

Yup! Great rentals on cabins very near the lake. A friend of mine, Jennie, has been organizing trips there for years, so we met up with a big group of our Berkeley friends. Many years we go skiing/snowboarding, but this year there was so little snow (nothing since Dec. 25th) and most of the resorts seem to be going the wrong direction from what I want — crowds and lift ticket prices up, quality of snow down. Plus Sammy and Sophie are a bit young for skiing. So this year it was all sledding all the time.

Yeah, the place is gorgeous. A friend of my mom’s used to own cabin #3, literally right on the water with a gorgeous huge picture window, which I believe has been torn down to make a new conference center.

(Mom’s friend’s grandfather owned all the land the grounds are on and donated it to the church with the condition that his heirs would always have cabin #3 — except the agreement didn’t specify the LAND the cabin was on, just the cabin. It burned down awhile back and even though they rebuilt, apparently that didn’t count — though they “graciously” let them keep using the new cabin up till about five years ago. Bummer.)

Still, fond memories of going there and following the geese down to the pier to feed them when they passed by the front of the cabin…

    That was me. Sigh.
