you are really the one who knows what you are doing! such simple steps to turn off the annoying Ctrl+Enter to send emails. no confusing regedit and HKEY stuff. I enabled mine by mistake and quickly and easily disabled it thanks to your instructions. you are great! thanks again

to get the dialog back:
delete CtrlEnterSends from:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Pre ferences
and restart outlook.

This will cause the dialog to display when outlook is restarted.

Hi.

It is a setting in Outlook, though it’s hard to find. Just wanted to add that I’m an extremely fast and accurate typist, and I have sent uncountable unfinished emails with the key combination ctrl + enter.

Change settings like this:
Tools > Options > Preferences Tab >
Email Options button >
Advanced Email Options button >
at the bottom of the dialog box, uncheck “Press CTRL + ENTER to send messages.”

Can’t find a user interface option, but have a look in your registry - regedit.exe

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Preferences

There is an entry CtrlEnterSends - set this to 1 to re-enable.

I don’t understand all the consternation. It’s an Option setting in Outlook–you either have it checked or not. If you like it, like me, turn it on. If you don’t, quit complaining and just turn it off.

Ian - God bless you fella, you are a true legend. I too made the mistake of turning off my CTRL+ENTER to send emails and it was driving me up the wall. Typical of Microsoft not to offer any help on correcting this too!

Someone else with BRAINs clearly doesn’t have much going on upstairs so I’ll refrain from having a cheap dig. However I will say it’s probably best you doing use that posting name given that this is a false statement to make about yourself.

Thank you! By the way I have used the control+enter option for 10 years also and send 100’s of emails everyday, I have never sent one early…..helps if you know how to type properly.Someone with brians should change his name to without…….

I have set up in policy to spell check a message before it is sent. However, I don’t want to spell check parts of the message from others when I am replying, so I want to bail out of the SpellCheck dialog before it reaches the end of the message. Is there a keyboard shortcut for this?

I have disabled the dialog box which use to alret me when ever I clicked CTRL+ENTER for sending.
I NEED THAT WARNING/DIALOG BOX TO BE ENABLED AGAIN….

“Idiotic” and “moron” are not words I want used in the comments on this blog — it’s a technical/help blog, and we can keep a civil tone here. Otherwise I’ll moderate away. Since this blog is my world, I can create whatever shelters I like.

I hate clicking. I love Ctrl+Enter. In ten years of using that shortcut, I think I’ve sent an e-mail early maybe twice. On the other hand, I’ve saved tens of thousands of mouse clicks. Worth it, in my opinion.

Your mileage may vary; I agree there should be a way to disable it. There is in Thunderbird, but I can’t find a way to disable it in Outlook.

LOL, I have to ask… what language?! Is it because he used the word idiotic or the word moron?!? What kind of sheltered little world do YOU live in?!

Anyways, back to the topic, ctrl+enter is one of the dumbest shortcuts EVER! If you happen to be pressing ctrl (as in, if you’re about to copy, cut or paste some text) and then you hit enter for a carriage return, BOOM the emai is gone. Not very convenient now is it?!

Personally I use Thunderbird more than Outlook. In Thunderbird, you can disable this easily: Tools | Options | General | select “Confirm when using keyboard shortcut to send message.”

Cntl-enter is an IDIOTIC shortcut and the above poster is a MORON. Just wait until you send a vital email by accident before it was ready and you’ll see how ‘wonderful’ this stupid shortcut from Microsoft really is.

For those of us with working brains here is the way to disable this lousy thing.

I am generally a big fan of shortcuts, but because I have wandering fingers I have on more than one occasion sent emails on accident and I can’t have that happen at work anymore. Does anyone have an answer for the above question - can you disable the “send” shortcuts?
